Ti Cycles can replace dropouts on your steel or titanium bike. If required, we will fabricate custom dropouts and replace seat-stays and/or chain-stays to ensure a great riding experience.
For more information on dropout conversion options for your specific frame, please Contact Us.
Dropout changes can be complicated when updating an older frame to a dropout of a different shape. The lengths, angles, and shapes of the frame’s chain-stays and seat-stays must be compatible with the shape of the new dropout. If the new dropout is not compatible with the existing rear triangle, the chain-stays and/or seat-stays must also be replaced.
See the below example of a common request, to update a QR rim brake road frame with modern R3D flat mount thru axle dropouts.

    FRAMEBUILDING SHOP NOTES:
- It is generally not possible to simply “trim” the ends of most chain- and seat-stays as the tube profile (thickness, shape, orientation) is generally not uniform.
- It is generally not possible to bend or otherwise manipulate chain- and seat-stays once they are built into a frame.
- A bike’s ride quality and characteristics are determined primarily by the frame geometry, which references the existing rear axle location. Changing the axle location can dramatically change the way a given bike functions, and often not in a beneficial manner.
- There are many types and shapes of rear dropouts available, and some retrofit nicely into certain older rear triangle designs. However, some will require either replacement of both chain-stays and/or seat-stays, or the design and fabrication of new dropouts from scratch.
